Sevilla hope to resolve Rafa Mir’s future before pre-season, seeking an exit for the striker ahead of the squad’s three July return. AS reports that the club would prefer he does not attend to avoid the media glare.
Exemptions apply for those involved in international tournaments.
A departure would ease the wage bill. Mir’s contract carries a gross salary close to four million euros per season, a significant outlay for a club constrained by salary limits.
Sevilla are constrained legally. With no final verdict and an appeal lodged against his conviction, the club does not have grounds for a dismissal for cause. Options under study include a suspension from duties and pay, similar to Celta Vigo’s handling of Santi Mina.
The priority remains finding him a destination. For now, the most viable route appears to be the Middle East, a market that has tracked him across the past two seasons.
Mir previously turned down that option, instead continuing via loans at Valencia then Elche. With pre-season nearing, Sevilla are working against the clock to settle a situation that has become one of their main issues this summer.
