Premier League rivals Manchester United and Aston Villa are encouraged to pull off a swap deal that would suit all parties.
The Red Devils are working on a major attacking overhaul that would see them replace unwanted players like Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, with new additions like Matheus Cunha (who already signed), Bryan Mbeumo and a new centre-forward.
In the meantime, Rasmus Hojlund’s future remains up in the air. The Dane is coming off an abysmal campaign where he only scored four goals in the Premier League.
Hojlund still has admirers in Serie A, dating back to his time at Atalanta, and chief among them is Inter Milan who are reportedly keen to land his services.
Nevertheless, Stan Collymore urges the 22-year-old to turn down the Nerazzurri, or any other foreign suitor, for that matter, and try to seal a move to Aston Villa.
The former Villans star argued that much in his latest column for CaughtOffside, believing that Unai Emery’s side would be the perfect place for the Denmark international to restore his ‘shattered’ confidence. He also argues that Villa should be able to afford the deal, especially if they were to offload Ollie Watkins.
Speaking of the England international, Man Utd legend Paul Ince has recently argued that the Red Devils should pursue his services above any other strikers.
“Ollie Watkins, without a doubt. He is proven, he scores goals, he has got all the attributes, he is quick, he can run in behind and he can attain the ball,” he told the MEN.
Therefore, the Manchester Evening News believe the two clubs would do well to trade the services of two players who are in different stages of their careers, but are equally in need of a move. Moreover, both clubs are operating on a budget, so a swap deal would help them limit their expenditures.
Watkins is a 29-year-old centre-forward who has been at Aston Villa since 2020 and is tied to the club with a contract valid until 2028.
The Englishman certainly had a more prolific campaign compared to Hojlund, but he fell on hard times in the second half of the season, especially with Rashford pipping him for a starting role.
