Sheffield United suffered a shocking 3-1 defeat against Derby County at Bramall Lane.

The away side took the lead in the first-half as ex-Barnsley striker Carlton Morris nodded a corner into the far corner of Michael Cooper’s net in front of the kop. Then, a few seconds into the second-half, Carlton Morris ran one-vs-one with Cooper before dinking the ball over him and into the net as he rushed to close him down. The hattrick came when the Rams were awarded a penalty for handball, Morris sent Cooper the wrong way as the away fans exploded into sheer delight once more. Callum O’Hare got a consolation goal with around 15 minutes to play.

First Half

Derby opened the scoring midway through the first half when Morris met Joe Ward’s inswinging corner and glanced a clever header beyond Michael Cooper into the far corner in front of the Kop. The visitors nearly doubled their advantage moments later, forcing Cooper into a sharp save from Ben Brereton Diaz’s long-range effort.

Sheffield United had chances to level before the interval, Japhet Tanganga’s header from a Sydie Peck free-kick was clawed away by Zetterstrom, before Tyrese Campbell headed over from Chiedozie Ogbene’s teasing cross. A superb recovery tackle from Matt Clarke on Callum O’Hare in stoppage time ensured Derby held their slender advantage at the break.

However, within seconds of the restart, United’s afternoon unraveled. A loose backpass from Peck was intercepted by Morris, who raced clean through on goal and coolly dinked the ball over the onrushing Cooper to double Derby’s lead.

As the Blades pushed forward in search of a response, Derby punished them again. When substitute Alex Matos was penalised for a handball in the box, Morris stepped up and confidently sent Cooper the wrong way to complete his first-ever career hat-trick and spark wild celebrations among the travelling fans.

United finally found a reply in the 73rd minute. A long throw from Sam McCallum caused chaos in the Derby box, and Callum O’Hare pounced on the loose ball, dancing past Clarke before rifling a finish high into the net.

Despite pressing late on, United never looked like staging a comeback, as Derby comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to claim a deserved three points.
