The move for Posh captain Burrows is one that has been mooted for a while, with the Peterborough Telegraph claiming that the left-back has already passed a medical ahead of a move to Bramall Lane, with terms agreed.

With the latest update that United teammate Jones could also be in line for a switch to Yorkshire this summer, Blades fans will be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of two of the EFL’s brightest young prospects joining the club this summer, as Chris Wilder’s rebuilding mission begins.

The pair have both been shining lights since emerging from the Posh academy in recent seasons, and with bright futures predicted for both of the young stars, the Steel City side could be the side to benefit from their impending rise up the football pyramid.

Harrison Burrows, Ricky-Jade Jones transfers could signal the start of a new era at Sheffield United after mass exodus

After relegation from the Premier League in the previous campaign, United waved goodbye to a number of stalwarts that have helped the Yorkshire outfit experience plenty of good times over the course of the previous decade.

Stalwarts Chris Basham, Oli Norwood and George Baldock all departed after years of service at Bramall Lane, as well as goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and full-back Max Lowe, who all said their goodbyes before the previous campaign had come to a close.

Recent updates have seen utility man Ben Osborn depart for fellow Championship side Derby County, while John Egan, Oli McBurnie and Daniel Jebbison have all seen their contracts elapse in the past few days.

With a number of first-team regulars off to pastures new, so begins a new dawn at United this summer, with Wilder tasked with bringing in plenty of new recruits in the hope of securing an immediate return to the top flight in the next 12 months.

The signings of Burrows and Jones could see them make massive strides in that regard, with the duo regularly excelling in their respective roles for the Posh during the most-recent campaign.

Having rejected a deal said to be in the £5 million region for Burrows in the past, it is no secret how highly-regarded the 22-year-old is at London Road, with his underlying numbers speaking for themselves in recent months.

From his role on the left side of the field, the Posh academy graduate contributed to 20 league goals over the course of the previous campaign, with 14 of those laid on for his teammates, while his energy and dynamism offered his side an outstanding outlet on the flanks.

It was the defender’s brace that sealed a 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the final of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy in April this year, where plenty of onlooking clubs were said to be watching on, with Jones also said to be being monitored by Newcastle United.

The exciting forward was rumoured to have a £2 million price tag on his head earlier in the year, meaning the Blades would have to part with a substantial fee to make the pair theirs this summer, but on the evidence shown to date, it would be a move well worth the investment.

The devastating pace and power of Jones was felt across the third tier in the previous campaign, with his 13 goal contributions seeing him play is part in a free-flowing Posh attack who scored the most goals in the division.

The exuberance of both players when going forward has made them two of the top performers in the third tier in terms of attacking performance, which is something the Blades will need to address given the departures of plenty of big names.

Wilder has often thrived with young, hungry talent in the past, and the former Oxford United boss will have two players whose fearlessness with the ball at their feet will see them slot seamlessly into the Championship should a deal be finalised this summer.

Sheffield United takeover delay could stall any Peterborough United deals taking place

The only thing that looks to be standing in the way of the Blades getting their hands on two of the Football League’s most exciting young prospects is the expected takeover of the club this summer.

Current owner Prince Abdullah is said to have wanted to sell the club for over a year now, with a number of proposed takeovers failing to materialise, although talks are currently in place with an American consortium.

Wilder [pictured] has already spoken about how his side will have to put any deals on the back burner until the issue is resolved, with the delay in any official handing over of the keys effecting the Blades’ summer business.

The Yorkshire side will be hoping the situation can be resolved sooner rather than later, or they risk missing out on two players likely to revolutionise them in the following season and beyond, with plenty of sides likely to pounce if the deals fail to be completed.
