Sheffield United have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers defender Emma Taylor on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this morning.

The 22-year-old moves to Bramall Lane after virtually being made redundant by former club Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season. The Lancashire club opted to withdraw from the elite game and re-enter the pyramid at non-professional level, leaving their players unable to continue.

Taylor spent some of her youth at Blackburn Rovers before going on to feature for the Liverpool and Manchester United academy sides. She also enjoyed time at Burnley before returning to Blackburn Rovers in summer 2023. Taylor made 27 appearances for Blackburn Rovers in all competitions.

After adding Taylor to his squad, Sheffield United boss Ash Thompson said “Emma was a key target for us early in the summer so I’m really delighted to have added her to the backline. She had a really impressive campaign last season, culminating in being named Blackburn’s Player of the Season and I think the qualities she possesses, as well as plenty of time to develop further, will see her become a really valuable addition to our defensive unit ahead of the new season.”

Taylor is Sheffield United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
