Sheffield Wednesday have filed for administration with no sign of the club's debts being settled.
The Owls owe £1 million in taxes to HMRC and owner Dejphon Chansiri has struggled to pay players and staff on time – all of these have resulted in the EFL giving the club embargoes.
Going into administration would means Wednesday face a 12-point deduction – especially damaging for a team that are already bottom of the Championship.
Indeed, the Owls would end up with -6 points from 11 games played should that happen meaning that manager Henrik Pedersen would need to perform miracles to prevent Wednesday from dropping to League One.
The silver lining for fans may be that being placed into administration hastens a club sale, which could offer some hope for the future.
