Sheffield Wednesday are interested in taking Aston Villa’s Zepiqueno Redmond on loan for the rest of the season after missing out on the attacker in the summer.

The Owls’ issues are well-documented, with the team facing inevitable relegation to League One after receiving two hefty points deductions.

As well as that, they have been under restrictions in terms of the transfer business they can do, although the EFL are allowing Wednesday to bring in two loan players this month.

Sheffield Wednesday targeting Aston Villa’s Zepiqueno Redmond

And, according to the Sheffield Star, Henrik Pedersen and the recruitment team are strongly considering Redmond to fill one of those slots.

They explain that the former Feyenoord man was on their radar in the summer, but a move didn’t materialise, as Redmond ultimately ended up joining Huddersfield.

His time in League One didn’t go to plan, as despite scoring on his debut as a sub, the 19-year-old would only play once more in the league for the Terriers as he suffered a knee injury that has kept him out since.

Even though he is returning to full fitness, it was decided by all parties that Redmond should return to Villa this month, with Lee Grant having settled on different attacking options in his absence.

So, Villa will be looking for another temporary switch for Redmond, and the update adds that Wednesday would be in a position to offer him regular football given the lack of options they have in the final third.

Zepiqueno Redmond could benefit from Sheffield Wednesday loan

Redmond is a player who can operate in different attacking positions, but he is at his best from the left flank, and he has qualities that Wednesday are lacking right now with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.

Obviously, Wednesday will be playing in League One next season, but the fans are still turning up in their numbers, and they expect a team that fights and scraps in every game they play.

So, Pedersen needs to do all he can to strengthen the group this month, even if we know they are working under serious restrictions.

But, Redmond would be a positive addition, and he would arrive with a point to prove after the bad luck he suffered at Huddersfield with that knee injury that prevented him from kicking on following a good start for the club.

Therefore, you could certainly see this move happening, and it will be a benefit to all parties, not least Redmond, who will get a chance to show what he can do in the Championship as he looks to get his career going after his move to Villa last year.
