Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly closing in on the loan signing of Luton Town striker Jerry Yates.
Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly set to sign Luton Town striker Jerry Yates on loan.
It has been a nightmare season for Wednesday, who are currently on a club-record 22-game winless run and are bottom of the Championship table on minus seven points, with relegation to League One all but guaranteed.
With the club still in administration, it has been a tough January transfer window for the Owls, and long-serving captain Barry Bannan became the latest departure from Hillsborough this week as he made the move to Millwall.
Despite the ongoing ownership uncertainty, Wednesday have been given permission by the EFL to make a few loan signings this month, with goalkeeper Murphy Cooper and midfielder Jaden Heskey joining on loan from QPR and Manchester City respectively, and it seems they may be closing in on another new addition.
It was first reported by BBC Radio Sheffield's Rob Staton that the Owls were hoping to complete a loan move for Yates, and journalist Pete O'Rourke has since revealed that the striker is heading to S6 for a medical after a deal was agreed with Luton.

Yates only joined Luton in the summer when he made the switch from Swansea City for what was believed to be a seven-figure fee following their relegation to League One.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Derby County, and he finished as the club's top scorer after netting 10 goals in 42 appearances to help them avoid relegation from the Championship.
However, it is fair to say it has not worked out for Yates at Kenilworth Road, with the striker scoring just seven goals in 29 games for the Hatters so far, and only two of those have come in the league.
In addition to his lack of goals, Yates has fallen out of favour at Luton since Jack Wilshere replaced Matt Bloomfield as manager, with the striker making just one start in the league in almost two months.
After just six months with the Hatters, it seems Yates could be set to depart as he prepares to make a temporary move to Wednesday, and with a medical scheduled to take place, the deal could be completed imminently.

Having failed to make an impact at Luton since his big-money summer move, the arrival of Yates will not generate too much excitement among Wednesday supporters, but it was always going to be difficult for the club to attract higher calibre players in their current predicament.
While Yates has struggled for goals for the Hatters, he did hit double figures for Derby in the Championship last season, so he should be capable of leading the line for the Owls in the second half of the campaign.
As Wednesday prepare to bolster their forward line, the signing of Yates could see the club sanction the departure of Bailey Cadamarteri, who was the subject of an improved £800,000 bid from Blackburn Rovers this week, while he is also on the radar of the likes of Millwall, Stoke City and Hibernian.
