Should Rohl Make Many Changes? | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Brann

After a tumultuous managerial search, the Glasgow Rangers have finally appointed Danny Rohl as Russell Martin’s successor. Talks with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat, who were ahead of him in the race, collapsed, and management reignited interest in the young German despite an initial rejection a few days ago. He will begin his stint on Thursday night with a trip to Norway ahead of their Europa League encounter against Brann.

While the Light Blues suffered defeats against Genk and Sturm Graz in the first two gameweeks, the Norwegian outfit bounced back before the international break by clinching a 1-0 win against FC Utrecht. They fought hard against Lille, but suffered a setback when Olivier Giroud netted a late winner in matchday 1. Rangers could be on the same points as Brann with a win on the road; however, Rohl would face a colossal job, considering the current catastrophe both on and off the pitch.

Defence

The new chief should not change a lot in his first game in charge, particularly in goal, when Jack Butland has exhibited his experience and expertise so far this season.

Rohl was flexible with his tactics during his tenure at Sheffield Wednesday, but primarily preferred a ‘back four’ – something he will likely rely on this midweek. Skipper James Tavernier must feature from the right ahead of Max Aarons, and the gaffer should rely on John Souttar and Derek Cornelius as the central defensive pairing over Nasser Djiga and Manny Fernandez. Jayden Meghoma, being the only designated left fullback, is expected to keep his place in the starting XI.

Midfield

Mohamed Diomande missed their weekend tie against Dundee United and is now a doubt in Bergen. Joe Rothwell might get the nod deep down the midfield, alongside Nicolas Raskin, who has been a shining light in the centre of the pitch. Thelo Aasgaard finally netted his first Rangers goal on Saturday, and the new boss, aware of the former Luton Town playmaker’s potential, should deploy him as a ‘number 10’.

Djeidi Gassama enjoyed a productive spell at Sheffield Wednesday under Rohl’s tutelage. The Frenchman has made a strong start with 5 goals in Europe, and their reunion north of the border could benefit the Glasgow giants in terms of creative spark. Mikey Moore made an impact as a late substitute when he set it up for Tavernier for their equaliser against the Tangerines. The on-loan Tottenham Hotspur teenager deserves a start on the right, replacing Oliver Antman.

Attack

Neither Bojan Miovski nor Youssef Chermiti has impressed while spearheading the attack. Yet the North Macedonian deserves a run of games, having shown his poaching traits previously in Aberdeen colours.
