Six stars from a mammoth UEFA Nations League encounter between Italy and France have returned to the Inter Milan camp.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, Simone Inzaghi has welcomed several core members of his star-studded squad back from international duties.
Italy and France locked horns in a pivotal Group A2 clash on Sunday night.
However, Luciano Spalletti’s side failed to lock down a top-table finish despite boasting a significant pre-match advantage.
Despite beating the French 3-1 in September as part of a five-game unbeaten run in this group, Italy finished second.
Indeed, Les Bleus stunned Giuseppe Meazza, replicating the scoreline from the Stade de France showdown.
Four Inter first-team stalwarts were in Spalletti’s starting XI.
But except for Federico Dimarco, they failed to impress.
On the other hand, Marcus Thuram returned to his stomping ground to haunt Italy.
Though he didn’t score, he was outstanding, helping France pick the Azzurri into pieces.
With the international break approaching its end, all the prominent figures from that game are back at Appiano Gentile.
While Dimarco delivered a dazzling performance, Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Davide Frattesi faltered.
However, all three of them had been exceptional in previous international fixtures.
More importantly, they’ve been superb for Inter.
With the last international window of 2024 out of the way, they can focus on helping Simone Inzaghi defend the Scudetto.
Indeed, they’ll stay together at Giuseppe Meazza for five consecutive months.
The next international break comes in March 2025.
Inter’s title fate in Serie A could be decided by then, although this season’s Scudetto race will likely go down to the wire.
Bastoni, Federico, Dimarco, Frattesi, and Thuram are among the carriers of Inzaghi’s title ambitions.
The same goes for Benjamin Pavard, who spent the abovementioned game on the bench.
