Liverpool’s Premier League title defence has hit a challenging spell as Arne Slot juggles a growing injury list and a run of decisive fixtures. After falling seven points behind league leaders Arsenal, the Dutch manager knows his side must rediscover consistency quickly. The Reds face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, followed by tough November clashes against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Liverpool’s record summer signing, Alexander Isak, was withdrawn at half-time during the 2-0 Champions League win over Frankfurt. Slot later confirmed that the Swedish forward had picked up a minor groin issue.
“Alexander had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That’s a pity,” Slot explained. “I’ve said many times it is such a difficult balance to find with a player that missed three months.”
Isak, signed for £125 million, missed the trip to Brentford and is still awaiting further assessment. With no official update since that match, his potential return date remains unknown, and Liverpool fans will hope to see him back before the crucial games ahead.

Ryan Gravenberch has endured a frustrating few weeks after picking up a hamstring problem on international duty, compounded by an ankle twist against Manchester United. The Dutch midfielder initially tried to continue but was eventually substituted, missing both the Frankfurt and Brentford fixtures.
Slot had expressed cautious optimism: “It’s an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”
Although he was close to inclusion against Brentford, medical staff chose not to risk him. His recovery is progressing, and he could make a return in the Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace.

Jeremie Frimpong’s Liverpool career has been disrupted once again by a hamstring problem. After missing time earlier in the season, the Dutch full-back suffered a recurrence of the same issue during the Frankfurt clash.
Slot confirmed the news, saying: “Jeremie is a hamstring issue. He came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago and played for the national team one game, came back to us and now unfortunately, after 10, 15 minutes, I don’t know, he had to go off.”
Frimpong is expected to miss several weeks of action, which comes as a blow given his energetic start to life under Slot.
Potential return date: November/December
Liverpool’s injury list also includes key figures in other areas. Curtis Jones requested to come off during the Brentford game, though Slot appeared calm about the situation. “We have to wait and see. He asked to be taken off. He walked off instead of needing a lot of treatment so I have to wait and see,” the manager said.
Meanwhile, Alisson Becker remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in September against Galatasaray. Slot admitted before the Brentford match, “Alisson is not in the squad tomorrow. That’s also going to take a little bit longer.” His recovery is ongoing, but a November return remains the likely timeline.
Young defender Giovanni Leoni, who suffered a devastating ACL injury on his debut, will be out for a year. Slot revealed: “He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year.”
Liverpool’s depth will once again be tested, and Slot’s management of player fitness could define how successfully the Reds navigate this pivotal run of fixtures.
