Manchester United face a climactic end to the January transfer window as numerous players face uncertain futures.

Fans are expecting conclusions to Marcus Rashford’s and Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer sagas, with both Reds primed for moves away from Old Trafford amid links to a host of European clubs. Should they depart, at least one attacking signing will be essential to ensure Ruben Amorim is fully covered for the remainder of the term.

Christopher Nkunku is the only concrete name to have been mooted as a stop-gap acquisition – much to the United faithful’s dismay. His injury record leaves a lot to be desired, and he’s spent the last season and a half playing second fiddle to Nicolas Jackson.

Elsewhere, Tyrell Malacia will be loaned out if United seal a deal for first-choice wing-back target Patrick Dorgu, for whom they will submit an improved bid in the coming days.

Napoli will step up efforts to sign Garnacho

Sky Sports Italy has today reported that the Red Devils plan to meet with Napoli ‘in the next few hours’ (GIFN) to reopen their negotiations for Garnacho after failing with their opening £40 million proposal.

Garnacho, 20, has started four of the last five matches in all competitions, making it pretty clear where he ranks in Amorim’s estimations. His prolific efforts – eight goals and five assists in 34 appearances – have seen him dubbed as the side’s most ‘impactful’ star.

Still, the board would sanction his exit if a suitable offer arrived in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Regulations. His prospective transfer would generate pure profit for United, so while they aren’t actively pushing him out the door, they’ve outlined their stance regarding his availability.

Chelsea remain keen on testing their rivals’ resolve for the eight-capped Argentine international but have yet to materialise their interest the same way Napoli have.
