Sky Sport Italia confirms Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani will meet Gerry Cardinale in New York today, hoping to ‘rebalance the power dynamics’ within the club.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Thursday morning that Milan CEO Furlani was due to meet club owner Cardinale in New York today.
Sky Sport Italia confirmed the news in the evening, with a reporter from Milanello Peppe Di Stefano adding more details about the imminent summit.
“Furlani is Milan’s CEO, and last week, he did not participate in the London meetings with Ibrahimović and Cardinale, with three potential sporting director candidates: Berta, Paratici, and Tare.

“Furlani has now travelled—likely with two lawyers—to meet with Cardinale in an attempt to rebalance the power dynamics within Milan and clarify who holds the most influence in these decisions,” continued Di Stefano.
“Ibrahimović and Cardinale had already made their choice, opting for Tare, but there seems to be a disagreement at the moment.
“On Sunday, Furlani, talking generally, stated that he, as CEO, has the final say. This brings back the usual debate: on one side, the ‘Cardinale sphere’ with Ibrahimović, and on the other, the ‘Elliott sphere’ with Milan’s CEO, Furlani.
“From what I understand, all technical discussions are currently on hold because the priority right now is defining the club’s internal power structure. These will be incredibly delicate weeks ahead. I believe Furlani will try to find a balance with Cardinale that ultimately benefits Milan.”
Di Stefano added that one of the three Milan candidates, Andrea Berta, is “destined” to be appointed by Arsenal to replace Edu, who had resigned in November.
Milan are in a tricky situation on the pitch, having lost the last three league games.
Their recent poor results dropped them to the 9th spot in the Serie A table, four points below the top four.
Coach Sergio Conceiçao will hold a pre-match press conference on Friday on the eve of a Serie A match against Lecce.
