Sky Sports are claiming that Chelsea still have belief in striker Liam Delap, despite most saying he’s so far been a flop.

Delap is a young player still and has made the big jump up from Ipswich Town to Chelsea, with both teams playing in very different ways. I think he has struggled to adapt to this and has been struggling as a result. The long term injuries have also not helped him this season.

But the bottom line is, if he wants to make it at Chelsea, he needs to be making much more of the chances that he is getting, because so far he has not been good enough at all.

However, it sounds like if this report is true, Chelsea are staying patient with Delap and are willing to afford him more time to come good.

The report says Chelsea still believe in Liam Delap and behind the scenes they feel he’s been unlucky with injuries. The message form inside the club is that you have to back him and give him a bit more time because he’s still young.

These reports always make me laugh. Chelsea are hardly going to come out and say ‘we’ve given up on Delap, he’s not good enough’ are they!? I’m sure they are concerned deep down, but let’s see how the rest of the season goes for him. Maybe a loan in the summer might be the best route forward?

In other news this week

Saturday was a good day for Chelsea left backs – Jorrel Hato had a good game and Marc Cucurella returned from his hamstring injury to help Chelsea beat Wrexham 4-2 in the FA Cup after extra time.

Hato might be needed for another important game this week – it all depends on what the physios say about Marc Cucurella.
