Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic has announced his retirement, according to L'Équipe. The news comes a week after he oversaw Spain's 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in the World Cup final.
The 46-year-old delivered a mixed display, initially taking a lenient line with Argentina before dismissing Enzo Fernandez at the end of normal time.
He bows out at the summit, ending his international career with the biggest assignment of his life.
Vincic began officiating in 2000 and has been a FIFA referee since 2010, working at Euro 2021 and Euro 2024 as well as the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
The Maribor-born official took charge of the 2024 Champions League final and became the first Slovenian to referee a World Cup final. He shed tears upon being appointed to the showpiece.
