Arne Slot says he does not expect Federico Chiesa to be out for long with the injury which forced him to pull out of the squad for the game against Marseille.

The Italian forward was set to be on the bench for the 3-0 win but was forced to withdraw.

And Slot explained that he had already been struggling with an issue beforehand.

“Yesterday he stepped out of the training session,” Slot said.

“We took him with us because we do not expect it to be a long-term injury.

“Because we stay here tonight, we’re here a bit longer.

“We thought it was good for him to have his treatment over here and we were hoping he maybe would have been fit in time but he wasn’t. He tried in the warm up and he wasn’t able to play, that’s why he wasn’t on the bench.”

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a free-kick, before Jeremie Frimpong’s cut-back was deflected in off goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli to make it two.

Cody Gakpo then added a late third, but Slot insists the performance was not that different to his side’s previous recent games which they failed to win.

“We had a chance to make it 2-0 and ten second later they had a chance, usually this season that ball goes in and we’re all complaining,” he said.

“But now the ball went over and we extended our lead to two and three nil.

“The performance is still the same but the perspective of how people talk about it is probably completely different.”
