Atlético de Madrid needed a second half goal from Alexander Sørloth to secure a 1-0 win over rivals Getafe

The home side came into this clash looking for the three points that would take them level on points with leaders Barcelona.

Diego Simeone's side had gone 23 games unbeaten against their fellow capital outfit before today but struggled in the first half to find their shooting boots.

Atleti had eight shots in the opening 45 minutes - the third time they had done so in LaLiga this season - but once again were goalless at the break.

But the breakthrough finally came with 20 minutes to go as Sørloth's brilliant header found the back of the net.

And that's how it stayed as Atleti went up into second place in the table.
