For the second time in 2 MLS games, the Sounders picked up a red card. They only have 2 for the season, and they have both been received by the left back. Nouhou picked up a red card for a foul on a goal scoring opportunity and his replacement, in their 1st game back after the Club World Cup, picked up a red card after receiving a second yellow card.

This is abnormal for the Sounders, with their defense in particular, because they traditionally play with discipline.

Despite the red card, Sounders pick up a win

The Sounders had a two goal lead against Austin FC and were able to continue to dominate possession even with a man down. Austin FC is ranked 9th in the MLS, but they are last in goals scored. Alex Roldan slid into the Center back position to adapt to playing a man down and performed admirably.

Brian Schmetzer praised the Sounders attack for building up from the back, moving through the midfield and finishing in front of the goal with an effort that involved the whole team. Both Jesus Ferreira and Danny Musovski, both of whom have struggled to score this season, filled the back of the net.

Jordan Morris entered the game as a late sub, marking his first MLS appearance since he reaggravating his hamstring injury earlier in the season. Unfortunately, he wasn't entirely match fit for the Club World Cup or the Sounders may have been able to get a result. As it was, the Sounders were 1 of only a handful of teams that did not get a result, but their goal differential was better than those teams that struggled.

Next on the schedule for the Rave Green are the Columbus Crew at Lumen Field. They are currently ranked 4th in the Eastern Conference. The Crew have won their last 3 games and and were able to rest and recover as the league took a break for the Club World Cup and the Gold Cup even though 2 of their players, Max Arfsten and Diego Rossi were called up for international duty. Arfsten is playing for the US, which just advanced via shoot out. Rossi got called up to play for Ukraine which beat New Zealand on June 10th. Arfsten will not play for the Crew as the US advances in the elimination part of the tournament.
