Sunderland face a busy summer, with Southampton pushing to land Dan Neil and Rennes working on a deal for Eliezer Mayenda.
Sky Sports reports Southampton are in advanced talks to sign the 24-year-old midfielder. Ouest France reports progress on Mayenda, and that Rennes have agreed a new contract for Esteban Lepaul, last season’s Ligue 1 top scorer.
Neil’s exit was set in January when he joined Ipswich Town on an initial loan, and they sealed Championship promotion on the final day. He is weighing his options as he becomes a free agent next week, with Rangers previously viewed as early frontrunners.
Recently relegated Wolves and West Ham United are also interested, though Southampton are seen as the most likely destination for the academy graduate, who won two promotions at his boyhood club.
Mayenda is open to leaving after spending most of last season as third choice on Wearside. Rennes will play in the Europa League next season and are considered among Ligue 1’s most ambitious clubs.
Whether a loan or permanent deal is being discussed is unclear, though Mayenda is thought to favour a permanent move. Signed for less than £1 million, he could earn Sunderland a major profit under the new SCR rules.
