Southampton’s expulsion from the Championship play-offs has been upheld after their appeal was dismissed, with Middlesbrough replacing Saints to face Hull City at Wembley at 3.30pm on Saturday, 23 May.

The club said in a statement that the League Arbitration Panel had upheld the sanctions, confirming they will not take part in the final.

Under EFL regulations, the panel’s decision is final, so there is no further route of appeal. Saints’ expulsion stands and a four-point deduction for next season also remains in place. The panel’s written reasons will be published in due course.

Kuryu Matsuki has thanked supporters for their backing throughout the season in the aftermath of the ruling. Leo Scienza told fans they deserved better.

Supporters have expressed anger and disappointment, with many highlighting lost trips and costs after plans for Wembley were dashed.

Attention now turns to repairing the club’s reputation, with significant changes expected over the summer and pressure for accountability likely to continue.
