Spain become first nation to hold men's and women's World Cups at once | OneFootball

Spain have become the first country to hold the men's and women's World Cups at the same time.

L'Équipe notes that this is unprecedented since the Women's World Cup was introduced in 1991.

La Roja beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time on Sunday night to secure a second men's world title, three years after the women beat England 1-0 in Australia.

The United States have won the women's crown four times, in 1991, 1999, 2015 and 2019, but have never lifted the men's trophy. Norway, champions in 1995, and Japan, in 2011, have also not won the men's tournament. Germany have triumphed in both, though not simultaneously, the women holding the trophy from 2003 to 2011 and the men from 1990 to 1994 and from 2014 to 2018.

Spain also won the men's Olympic title and Euro in 2024. Their women's side lifted the first two Nations League editions in 2024 and 2025.
