A Spanish mayor has barred the 9 June World Cup warm-up between Chile and DR Congo in La Línea de la Concepción, citing caution over the Ebola outbreak in the African country.

According to L'Équipe, the decision leaves DR Congo without a final friendly before flying across the Atlantic for the tournament, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.

Mayor Juan Franco said in an audio message that he had signed a decree not authorising the match at the municipal stadium, describing it as a health precaution based on advice from the regional government’s health service.

DR Congo had planned to complete their build-up against Chile after facing Denmark in Liège on Wednesday. The situation had already prompted the squad to cancel a camp in Kinshasa and relocate to Belgium.

Returning to the World Cup after 52 years, DR Congo are in Group K with Colombia, Portugal and Uzbekistan. They have been authorised to compete despite the outbreak.
