Spike Lee watched Corinthians lose 2-0 to Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro at the Neo Química Arena on Wednesday.
According to Meu Timao, the US filmmaker followed the match from a hospitality box, sporting a Corinthians cap and jacket.
Spike saw a long-standing record fall. Corinthians had never previously lost to Coritiba at the Neo Química Arena, and it was the southerners' first win over Corinthians in 15 years.
Born in Atlanta in 1957, Shelton Jackson 'Spike' Lee is known for Malcolm X (1992), Do the Right Thing (1997), Inside Man (2006) and BlacKkKlansman (2018), winning an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the latter.
His films frequently address ethnic and social conflict, racial tensions and Black culture, especially around Brooklyn, New York. He is an avid sports fan and is often seen at Madison Square Garden watching the New York Knicks.
The game came in Oscars week, with the ceremony on Sunday in Los Angeles. Corinthians now turn to Sunday's clássico, travelling to face Santos at Vila Belmiro at 16:00 in the sixth round of the Brasileirão.
