Manchester United have had a tough Premier League campaign, and manager Ruben Amorim is likely to be backed with a big summer spending spree.
Amorim could prefer a reunion with some of his players at Sporting CP, and the Red Devils are already in advanced negotiations to sign one of them.
Talks have reportedly progressed over a summer move for wonderkid Geovany Quenda. A deal worth £50 million will go through.
Amidst this, Sporting CP youth coach Bernardo Bruschy has praised the teenager.
He told A Bola: “Sometimes we forget that Quenda is only 17 years old.
“His maturity, his quality and the performance he can already give to the team, even though he is so young, are something out of the ordinary.
“And that makes us forget his age, but he is only 17 years old and has a lot to improve and grow, but he is already a player who is at a state of maturity far ahead of what is normal for his age.
“Seeing his name being associated with clubs of the biggest size in Europe surprises me just because it is so early – I am not surprised if he gets there.”
Quenda, who is ‘very talented‘ as per Amorim, has made huge strides since his first-team breakthrough under him at the beginning of the season.
He was impressive as a right wing-back for the Primeira Liga giants. He continued in the same position under successor Joao Pereira, who was sacked in December.
With Rui Borges taking charge, Quenda has started regularly as a left winger. He has been equally effective and has registered four assists from the role.
Quenda has nine goal contributions in his maiden year at Sporting CP. He will turn 18 in April and looks poised to pursue a new challenge abroad this summer.
United reportedly have a verbal agreement in place, but there has been no formal announcement.
Several other elite Premier League clubs are also tracking Quenda. Amorim will hope United can convince the youngster to make the switch to Old Trafford.
