Sporting San Miguelito, Plaza Amador meet in Central American Cup Play-In

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Sporting San Miguelito hosting CD Plaza Amador in the First Leg of their Play-In series on Wednesday at Estadio Universidad Latina in Penonomé, Panama.
The Play-In round will see the four teams eliminated in the Quarterfinals compete for the last two berths in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
This series between Sporting San Miguelito and Plaza Amador marks a first in the Central American Cup, as two Panamanian club meet in the Play-In Round for the first time.
Sporting San Miguelito will feature in the Play-In Round for the first time in what will be its third two-legged series in international club competitions. Sporting’s previous two-legged series both came in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League, first winning 4-1 on aggregate against Deportivo Malacateco in the Round of 16, before falling 2-1 on aggregate against Tauro FC in Quarterfinals.
Plaza Amador will also appear in the Play-In stage for the first time as it continues its impressive Central American Cup debut campaign. The team has secured victories in four out of its five matches so far (4 wins, 1 loss). Forward Everardo Rose has been Plaza Amador’s top contributor in attack with four goals and two assists and leads the competition with 19 attempted shots. Los Leones are set for a 14th two-legged series in international competitions, having advanced five times and being knocked out eight times in its previous 13 series.
The meeting presents the 56th encounter between the Panamanian rivals in their history. Sporting San Miguelito leads the all-time series with 21 wins to 14 for Plaza Amador, while 20 matches have resulted in draws.
