According to a report from Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias via Sports Witness, Sporting CP and Denmark midfielder Morten Hjulmand is one of the names on Tottenham Hotspur's wishlist ahead of the summer.
The report mentions that Spurs had a scout in attendance when the Lisbon outfit played Porto in January - a game the midfielder played 90 minutes in.
Furthermore, it is suggested he has a release clause of 80 million Euros - which is around 66 million pounds - though there is "room to negotiate", suggesting that with a good enough offer, he could be signed for less than that - with the club resigned to losing the player this summer.
As you may expect - Manchester United are also mentioned as being interested in the player, with Ruben Amorim having coached him during his time at the club, and that may prove to be too much in the end.
In terms of the player himself, he is a tenacious defensive midfielder, who is very good at winning the ball back - but he also has ability on the ball. Some of you may remember his long range goal against England at the European Championships back in June, earning his side a 1-1 draw.
This season, the 24/25 campaign, is the first season since the 2012/13 season that Spurs have not had a Danish midfielder in the team. From 2013/14 until 2019/20 they had Christian Eriksen in the side, and from 2020/2021, they had Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the team.
Back when the latter signed for the club, he admitted that Eriksen had put in a good word to him about Spurs - perhaps he, and Hojbjerg, can do the same here - should any interest begin to increase and a deal become possible.
It has been said absolutely countless times that Spurs need a player in the middle of the park, who can win the ball back and allow the top attacking players in the side the freedom to do their thing. If Spurs have a ball winner in the team, who can do the work other players don't want to do - then that also helps decrease the chances of those players being fatigued from doing so much running to get the ball back.
