After coming within touching distance of a move to Liverpool last summer, only for the deal to collapse at the final moment, Marc Guehi’s future at Selhurst Park now feels more uncertain than ever. With the player close to entering the final six months of his contract, Crystal Palace are open to offers rather than risk losing their captain for free in the summer.
The England international has one goal and one assist in six Premier League matches this season for the Eagles, a reminder of the influence he carries at both ends of the pitch.
Tottenham Hotspur are among the leading contenders to secure his signature, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside. Spurs believe the 25-year-old could add both leadership and stability to their backline, with the reduced transfer fee aligning with their budget for mid-season reinforcements.

Thomas Frank’s side are also reported to be keen, with Guehi’s expiring contract making him an attractive, cost-effective target. As one source observed, “He is the kind of player who instantly improves your defensive core without breaking financial structures.”
However, the race for Guehi extends far beyond English football. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are weighing up January bids, with sources close to the player suggesting he is open to testing himself in La Liga. Guehi has instructed his representatives to keep communication lines open with Real Madrid in particular, highlighting his ambition to operate at the very highest level.
Liverpool remain determined to revive their pursuit, viewing Guehi as a long-term defensive solution. Manchester City and Manchester United are also monitoring developments, with City seeking to refresh an ageing defence and United identifying Guehi as a potential successor to Harry Maguire.
Crystal Palace accept a long-term extension is unlikely and are prepared to negotiate offers in the region of €20-30 million, though the short length of his contract could see the fee fall further. As CaughtOffside note, his departure feels less a question of “if” and more of “when.”
Liverpool supporters will watch this situation with a mix of excitement and concern. After the collapse of last summer’s deal, there is a real determination from the Anfield hierarchy to put matters right. Guehi is 25, Premier League proven, and already a leader, which makes him exactly the sort of player to build a defence around under Arne Slot.
Yet scepticism remains. The competition from Spurs, Manchester United and even Barcelona and Real Madrid means Liverpool could easily be drawn into a bidding war. While Palace’s valuation of €20-30 million looks modest, the presence of multiple elite clubs will inevitably drive up both fee and wages.
For Spurs fans, there is excitement at the prospect of securing a defensive cornerstone at a time when Thomas Frank’s project requires stability. United fans will also be intrigued, seeing Guehi as the natural heir to Harry Maguire. For Palace supporters, disappointment seems unavoidable. Their captain looks set to depart and the only question now is which shirt he will be wearing come February.
The reality is simple. Guehi is too talented, too composed and too valuable to remain at Selhurst Park. January promises to be decisive and whichever club secures him may be gaining one of the smartest defensive additions of the decade.
