Stade Malherbe Caen, owned by Kylian Mbappé, are preparing another summer reshuffle as they face a second straight season in the third tier, which will be renamed Ligue 3 in August.
Eighth in National with three matches remaining, the club have been working for weeks on appointing a sporting director, a role currently vacant, according to L'Équipe.
Nasser Larguet, 67, technical director at the Saudi federation, has been contacted and is in talks, while also weighing up retirement. Caen are also monitoring Reda Hammache, head of recruitment since January 2025, who is on sick leave.
The former Red Star and Nîmes sporting director has fronted the project in recent months but, targeted by supporters, the 43-year-old stepped back to rest mentally, an issue the club take seriously. His ties with the Mbappé family, notably mother Fayza, are not seen as conflictual. He is due to return in the coming days and remains slated to lead recruitment.
A new sporting director would provide a fresh public face. Questions also surround Pascal Plancque, technical director since January 2025, with the 62-year-old considering his future and a possible exit at season’s end. Several out-of-contract coaches and educators are expected to leave, including Romain Leroux and Julien Lecoq with National 3, Fabrice Vandeputte with the U19, and goalkeeping coach Sébastien Maté.
