Marc Bola broke the deadlock in the 18th minute with a left-footed finish after a fast break, his strike setting up Watford's 3-1 win over Wrexham.
He ghosted in on the left to sweep into the centre after a rapid transition (18.). The calm finish gave Watford the platform they needed.
After the restart he read danger smartly for Hornets, clearing his lines and shutting down the flank as Wrexham slung in 43 crosses. Late on, he rattled the bar in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.
He finished with one goal, four clearances, two interceptions and one tackle won, plus 26 accurate passes from 52 touches. It was a complete defender's display wrapped around a decisive strike.
Because the Hornets attacked at pace on turnovers, his timing to join breaks and then recover into position kept Wrexham stretched without exposing his side.
The Hornets host Leicester City next. Wrexham visit Sheffield United.
How high would you rate Bola's performance tonight?
