The numbers tell an uncomfortable story for Inter Milan ahead of Sunday night’s Serie A showdown with Bologna.
As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, recent history between the sides has not favoured the Nerazzurri.
Bologna have won three of the last five league meetings, with Inter managing just one victory and one draw. Even across the last ten encounters, the Rossoblù hold the edge with five wins, despite the two emphatic 6-1 victories Inter recorded in 2021 and 2022.

What stands out most, however, is how similar the two teams have become statistically.
Under Cristian Chivu, Inter Milan press more aggressively, closing the gap with Bologna in one of the key indicators of intensity. Both sides recover an average of 44 balls per match, underlining how often the game is played at high tempo and with little margin for error.
There are parallels in build-up play too. Inter develop 61% of their attacking actions down the flanks, with Bologna almost identical at 60%. The battle on the wings could therefore be decisive.
Even up front, comparisons emerge. Lautaro Martinez and Santiago Castro share similar profiles in how they attack space and lead the press, even if their goal returns remain on very different levels.
Inter have struggled against top-level opponents this season. Bologna, Coppa Italia winners and recent Champions League participants, now sit firmly in that bracket.
Sunday night will show whether Inter have truly turned a corner, or whether the numbers strike again.
