Real Madrid suffered a crushing 2-5 defeat against Atletico Madrid, leaving fans concerned about the team’s current form.
While the scoreline was worrying, one fact became very clear that Real Madrid are growing increasingly dependent on Kylian Mbappe.
For what it is worth, there is a valid argument that the 26-year-old French forward is carrying most of the attacking load, and the stats confirm it.
So far this season, Mbappe has scored 10 of Real Madrid’s 18 goals. The only match where he didn’t score was against Mallorca.
Even in a tough game at the Wanda Metropolitano, he managed to score one of Madrid’s two goals, with Arda Guler scoring the other.
This trend shows that when Real Madrid find the net, Mbappe is usually the one making it happen.
The statistics underline his importance. In La Liga, he has scored eight goals from just 24 shots, 13 of which were on target.
Outside of Mbappe, only four players, namely, Guler, Eder Militao, Vinicius Jr., and Franco Mastantuono, have scored this season.

This reveals a clear imbalance that Real Madrid’s attack heavily relies on their star striker, with few alternatives stepping up.
The problem goes beyond scoring, as The midfield has been inconsistent in creating chances, leaving attackers underfed.
The defence, overwhelmed in the match against Atletico, showed vulnerabilities not seen in previous games.
The bench offered no solutions to change the game’s momentum, highlighting a lack of depth in key areas.
Fans are now worried that Real Madrid’s project is leaning too heavily on one player. Mbappe is performing at a top level, but football is a team sport.
For long-term success, Real Madrid will need more balance in attack and stronger support from the midfield and bench.
Until then, the team’s reliance on their star forward remains the most pressing concern.
