Stephan El-Shaarawy confirms AS Roma exit with emotional farewell message | OneFootball

Stephan El-Shaarawy has confirmed he will leave AS Roma at the end of the season after 10 years, L'Équipe reports.

The 33-year-old winger, a Genoa academy graduate, joined in January 2016. Aside from one and a half seasons with Shanghai Shenhua from 2019 to 2021, he made 347 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 50 assists.

His farewell post reflected that some places become home before you realise, and that his decade in Rome was about people, emotions and life. It spoke of arriving with dreams and ambition and leaving with a full heart, shaped by joy and tougher moments on and off the pitch.

El-Shaarawy will play his final home match on Sunday, the derby against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. The message also expressed that a part of him would remain in the city and that he would be eternally grateful to the club and to Rome.

The Italy international has 32 caps and seven goals. He stands on the cusp of the club’s top 10 for appearances.
