Stéphane Richard confirms Grégory Lorenzi’s imminent arrival as Marseille sporting director

On Wednesday, Stéphane Richard confirmed Grégory Lorenzi’s imminent arrival as Olympique de Marseille’s sporting director.

According to L'Équipe, Richard told an event at the BFM Marseille Provence headquarters that the name circulating in the press was correct and that formal confirmation would follow shortly.

Lorenzi, formerly a senior figure at Brest, is set to replace Medhi Benatia, who departed after a season marked by internal turmoil.

The situation had turned sensitive in recent days, as the former Corsican defender had been close to joining OGC Nice. An agreement had even been signed with the Riviera club, conditional on their Ligue 1 survival.

Lorenzi ultimately prioritised Marseille, with the appointment viewed as a strategic step in launching the club’s new project.
