Leeds United and Hull City are likely to discuss Joe Gelhardt’s future this summer, with former Tigers forward Stephen Hunt saying the 24-year-old could be effective in the Premier League if a permanent MKM Stadium move happens.

Gelhardt has spent 18 months on loan at Hull across two spells, scoring 15 in 42 games as the Tigers returned to the top flight via a Championship play-off final win over Middlesbrough.

At Leeds, his Premier League minutes were scarce, with six starts and 29 substitute outings across two seasons. He did provide a dramatic late winner against Norwich City in March 2022.

Stephen Hunt told the 1904 Club podcast: "Joe Gelhardt, I think he's a very, very good player. I think he can play in the Premier League. He never really had that opportunity."

"He had a flash with it with Leeds. I think he's ready to play in the Premier League, and he can be effective. You look at Jarrod Bowen, who's a left-footed right-winger who's scored goals in the Premier League."

Hull hold no option to buy after last summer’s EFL embargo prevented fee-based deals, so any transfer would need to be negotiated. Leeds sought £3-4m last year and, after that campaign, could expect more. He cost £1m from Wigan in 2020 and his contract expires next summer.
