The former Stoke City boss was confirmed as the replacement for Ian Evatt on Thursday evening.

He will take charge of his first game at the club this weekend, with the Whites still hoping to secure a top six finish in League One this season.

But they also have only until Monday night to make any changes to the first team squad through the transfer window, which will close at 11pm in the UK.

Schumacher has confirmed that he has held talks with sporting director Chris Markham over potential transfer moves in the final days of the market.

He believes that there will be activity between now and Monday night, but that his focus for now is on his first match in charge this weekend.

“Obviously a lot of that work has been done by Chris and his team behind the scenes with regards to the transfer window,” said Schumacher, via The Bolton News.

“We have been in conversation for the last few days and we are in discussion about where we think we can try and help the squad, if possible.

“With the deadline coming up on Monday I'm sure there will be a little bit of action going on here and there.

“All I can focus on right now is the game on Saturday away at Reading, and I can't wait for it.”

Bolton league position

Schumacher has taken over Bolton with the team sitting seventh in the League One table.

Only an inferior goal difference is currently separating Wanderers from a play-off position.

However, Schumacher’s side have played a game more than sixth place Leyton Orient.

The 40-year-old will oversee this weekend’s trip to face Reading, which gets underway at 3pm on Saturday.

A busy few days awaits Bolton

If Schumacher wants to make any impact on the first team squad this month, then it could be a very busy end to the window for Bolton.

The ex-Plymouth manager will be hoping to make some additions that can bolster the team’s promotion chances.

They are very much in the mix for a top six position once again this year, having reached the play-off final last season under Evatt.
