FC Barcelona once again beat Atletico Madrid last night as the two Spanish giants met in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. Ferran Torres was the scorer of the only goal in this game as the Blaugranes got a 0-1 win and made their way to the finals, where they will face Real Madrid.

Frenkie de Jong captained the Catalan team in this crucial game and was one of the stand-out performers in Hansi Flick’s side. The Dutchman contributed well, both to the offence and the defence, and helped his team get an important win.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to the media after the full-time whistle, and expressed his happiness about his team making its way to the final of the competition:

“We played a good game, especially in the first half, where we dominated and scored the goal. In the second half, we suffered a bit more because they pressed higher and played more in our half. We held on well, suffered as a team, and even on the counter, we had chances or opportunities to create big chances.”

The Barcelona midfielder also expressed his excitement on facing Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final:

“A Barça-Madrid is always special, always a game where both teams can win, no matter their current form. There are many games before that, but we are excited to play it.”

However, the Dutchman avoided talking up his team’s chances of winning the treble:

“We are not close yet, there is still a long way to go, and we are not thinking about that. We are focused on winning matches to secure titles, but I believe there is a lot left in the season, and we shouldn’t talk before actually winning.”

Despite having a rather difficult season so far, De Jong has once again made himself an important part of this Barcelona team in recent weeks. Hopefully, he will continue to remain fit and make such contributions as he did last night as he can play a key role in helping his team win some silverware this season.
