STJD to charge Paulinho over Flamengo v Palmeiras celebration

The STJD will charge Palmeiras forward Paulinho over his goal celebration during the Brasileirão match against Flamengo at the Maracanã.

According to Coluna Do Fla, after scoring Palmeiras’ third goal he raised both middle fingers and made a clenched-fist sign associated with one of the club’s organised fan groups. He will now answer before the sports tribunal for the gesture.

He also celebrated in front of Flamengo supporters, prompting protests from Flamengo players. The forward then stepped on a Flamengo crest positioned on the pitch.

The result ended a long winless run for Palmeiras against Flamengo, and Abel Ferreira’s side moved seven points ahead of Flamengo in the Brasileirão.

Flamengo have already switched focus to their next assignment. On Tuesday 26, they face Cusco (PER) in the final round of the Libertadores group stage.
