Dave Challinor has left Stockport County by mutual consent after almost five years in charge at Edgeley Park, bringing an end to one of the club’s most successful modern eras.
The 50-year-old departs after guiding them from the National League up to League One, overseeing two promotions and establishing Stockport as a competitive force in the EFL.
Across his 268 games in charge, Challinor won 144 matches and played a major role in transforming the club’s fortunes both on and off the pitch.
This season ended in disappointment, however, with Stockport narrowly missing out on promotion to the Championship after defeat to Bolton Wanderers in the League One play-off final at Wembley.
Challinor, who returned to the club in 2021 after a successful managerial spell elsewhere, had become one of the longest-serving managers in the EFL. He is now expected to be linked with several roles, including reported interest from Blackburn Rovers, although his departure is not believed to be tied to another job.
