The trio are all ramping up preparations for the upcoming Championship campaign and are looking to take advantage of the Tigers’ current precarious financial situation with a swoop for the centre-back.

Egan only joined Hull City in January but could already be set to exit the MKM Stadium.

The 32-year-old put in a number of impressive performances during his half a season with the Tigers, which has naturally brought forward the interest from other clubs in the division.

According to Pete O’Rourke via X, Stoke City, Derby County and Wrexham have all registered their desire to sign Egan.

It is believed that the defender would be available for a reduced fee due to Hull City’s ongoing financial turmoil, which has seen them sanctioned with a transfer embargo.

The Republic of Ireland international made 11 appearances for the Tigers last season as they avoided the drop on goal difference.

Egan previously spent six years with Sheffield United, a spell which included two promotions to the Premier League and a run to the FA Cup semi-final.

The defender joined Burnley for the first half of last term before moving to Hull, but could now be set for a third move in less than 12 months.

His contract is set to expire in a year’s time, with Stoke City, Derby County and Wrexham looking to capitalise on the market opportunity at hand.

Experience and quality are two attributes that are crucial within a successful Championship squad but are extremely hard to recruit.

Therefore, with a player as proven at the second-tier level as Egan, it would be nonsensical to pass up on the opportunity to acquire such an asset.

As Wrexham look to make some marquee signings as they announce their return to the Championship, Egan might be more of a low-key, sensible option that would raise the level of their backline.

Stoke City and Derby County were both also involved in a relegation scrap last term and will likely want to take quality off a potential rival for next season, which signing Egan would surely do.

The 32-year-old would be a huge miss for Hull, but an even bigger gain for the three interested parties.
