Stones sets out his Inter ambitions: ‘Hungry to win again’ | OneFootball

John Stones has spoken of his pride and excitement after completing his move to Inter, declaring himself “hungry to win again” as he begins the first chapter of his career outside England.

With quotes via Inter’s official channels, to whom the England defender gave his first interview, Stones admitted the switch stirred a mix of emotions.

“A lot of emotions, to be honest, an overwhelming feeling of happiness and pride, excitement to start this new chapter,” he said. “And what a place to do it.”

After a decade at Manchester City, the 32-year-old said moving abroad was something he had long wanted, and that he and his family “didn’t hesitate” once the chance arose.

Stones relishes Akanji reunion at Inter

A key part of the appeal is a familiar face. Stones will link up again with former City team-mate Manuel Akanji, though he kept the Swiss in the dark until the deal was sealed.

“I didn’t want to jinx it before signing,” he explained. “He’s one of the best defenders I’ve played with, and I’m really happy to link up with him.”

He will also reunite with Cristian Chivu’s assist Aleksandar Kolarov, who he knew from his City days.

Asked what he can bring to the reigning champions, Stones pointed to his mentality and his medal collection. “I’m someone who’s very hungry to win again,” he said.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have won so many things in the past, and I want to bring that experience here.” He stressed a team-first outlook, “you don’t win by yourself” and an openness to “a new way of football and a new league.”

Fresh from helping England to a bronze medal at the World Cup, and now the fourth Englishman to represent Inter, Stones signed off with a message to supporters.

“I promise that I’ll wear the shirt with pride and give everything for the club and my teammates,” he said.
