Former Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman spoke highly of the club in a recent interview with the Giallorossi’s official account.
In it, Strootman recounted the feeling after scoring the winning goal in Lazio 0-1 Roma in 2016.
“When I see the images of that goal, it immediately gives me a special feeling. It gives me chills; those moments are everything a footballer needs. You’re working towards those moments, to achieve a goal together. Like winning a derby.”
“Every now and then, in moments of a career, you need to feel important. If you score a goal in a derby and win it, yes, you feel important. I no longer felt as important as I did before the injury. That day I took back a little piece of my Roma, knowing how important it was to our fans.”
“In these games, it’s not just the quality that counts, but above all the mentality. I hope the more experienced players in the locker room can convey that feeling to the others too. What counts is the desire to win and make an impact.”
“Roma was a summary of my life. Five years of ups and downs, but I was always supported from all sides. When I played well, when I played badly, when I was injured, when I scored goals. I felt the passion of the fans, the managers, the coaches; talking about Roma gives me goosebumps. I mean it.”
“They were the best five years of my career; I gave everything for the shirt, for Roma. My only regret is not having won something; that’s truly disappointing.”
