Igor Tudor has helped revitalize a few Juventus players but hasn’t managed to do the same with Teun Koopmeiners, who hasn’t looked much better than last season in the early going. He continues to be very distant from the contributor he was with Atalanta.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri don’t have a real answer for his struggles. While he had the justification of missing the preseason preparation last year, he is fine physically now. His professionalism and abnegation aren’t in question. He gelled with his teammates, and he’s a respected leader in the locker room.
The situation hasn’t led to better performances, even though the coach has fielded Koopmeiners in a more natural and less dynamic role. He has tallied just five goals and three assists since moving to Turin.
Tudor won’t give up, but the management will consider selling the midfielder in January or next June if he doesn’t improve and they receive sufficiently good offers, Mediaset relays. It’s not an easy proposition since he has a €36M valuation on their books. The Dutchman risks being surpassed in the pecking order even by youngster Vasilije Adzic.
Considering their final transfer market moves and the composition of their midfield, they actually need his best version. They aren’t deep and don’t have a great pure ball-handler. However, he’s highly tentative and looks shot, both physically and confidence-wise, whenever he gets the chance to play. Their new brass isn’t as committed to him as the previous one. A change of scenery, probably at the end of the season, can’t be ruled out despite the financial hurdles.
