A couple of experienced EFL players could prove to be shrewd additions for the Sky Blues if they join.

Coventry City made a number of positive signings during the summer transfer window.

Former star man Callum O'Hare may have left, but Jack Rudoni could prove to be a shrewd replacement for him in the long term.

In terms of some of their other additions, Luis Binks coming back permanently is a plus, Oliver Dovin was a much-needed signing with Ben Wilson and Brad Collins struggling at times last term and Brandon Thomas-Asante is a proven striker at this level.

This investment off the pitch has put the Sky Blues in a strong position to challenge for a top-six place this term, having missed out at the end of last season.

However, more additions can always be made to strengthen a side, and with the transfer window now closed, Mark Robins' side will now need to work in the free agent market if they are keen to add more players to their squad before January.

Potential future injuries could force them into signing a free agent or two, but looking at their current squad without taking injury setbacks into account, we have identified two unattached players who could prove to be shrewd additions if signed.

John Egan

Centre-back John Egan was released by Sheffield United during the summer, and even though he was still recovering from a serious injury at the time, this decision came as a surprise to many.

The Irishman was an excellent servant for the Blades, and when fit and on form, the central defender is still a real asset to have at this level.

Right now, the Sky Blues don't have an overly experienced option in this area and with this in mind, as well as the fact they haven't kept a clean sheet in their opening four league games, Egan could be a shrewd addition.

You can understand why Coventry want to have a fairly young squad, because many of these first-teamers have a chance of being sold on for a healthy profit in the future.

However, a replacement for Kyle McFadzean could be exactly what they need, with both McFadzean and Egan having a decent amount of EFL experience under their belt.

It may take a while for Egan to get up to speed, but he could be a shrewd addition and his arrival could give Robins more of a chance to play Joel Latibeaudiere at right-back if required.

Stuart Armstrong

Ex-Southampton man Stuart Armstrong is a versatile player who can play in a range of positions.

Able to operate as a central midfielder, he can also play as an attacking midfielder and following the departure of Kasey Palmer, he could be an alternative to Rudoni.

Similarly to Egan, he is an experienced player who already knows what it takes to get promoted at this level and this could make him a good asset to have both on and off the pitch.

He can also fill in as a winger and it certainly wouldn't hurt Coventry to have another wing option at their disposal if they are going to play a 4-2-3-1 system throughout the campaign.

Able to contribute in the final third, Coventry could do a lot worse than offer a deal to Armstrong, who is still without a club at this point.
