Liverpool are facing problems over certain midfielders this summer.

Curtis Jones could be sold to Inter Milan if the Italian champions meet his €40m asking price. The 25-year-old is out of contract in 2027 and this is Richard Hughes’ last chance to make some decent money on the Scouse playmaker.

Others - such as Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott - are also out of contract next year and it would be no surprise to see the Anfield side fielding enquiries.

Another problem is looming in the shape of Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister looks like a player reborn

Towards the end of last season not many Liverpool fans would have complained if the 27-year-old were to be put up for sale.

He’d suffered badly throughout the 2025/26 campaign - no longer the midfield force he was during the Premier League title win.

And with a contract extending only to 2028 it would have made sense for sporting director Hughes to execute a deal for a top-dollar fee.

But that’s all changed in the last few weeks. The former Brighton man - who signed for the Reds back in 2023 on a £35m deal - has looked back to his best for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup.

Mac Allister wants Real Madrid move

It’s even led to reports that the club hierarchy are considering restarting contract talks over an extension following a period of radio silence.

But all that could be spoiled by reports coming out of Defensa Central in Spain - which claim that Mac Allister wants out and he’s been offered to Real Madrid.

Macca believes his time at Liverpool is over

“Journalist Miguel Serrano, better known as “Látigo Serrano,” has revealed that a midfielder has offered himself to Real Madrid. It is neither Enzo Fernández nor Vitinha, but rather Alexis Mac Allister, currently at Liverpool,” the report reads.

“Serrano reports that Mac Allister has been offered to Real Madrid and outlines his current situation at Liverpool:

“The latest player to be offered is Alexis Mac Allister. He is under contract with Liverpool until June 2028, and the player believes his time in England is over.”

“He also claims Liverpool would not be overly demanding in negotiations and could be open to a sale:

“Liverpool would accept a transfer of €100 million (£85m). This wasn’t proposed by his agent, but by the same intermediary who offered Enzo in February — someone who works with Madrid on Premier League matters.”

Mac Allister deal could cost £85m

Mac Allister has been a fixture in Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina team that has reached the World Cup final against Spain.

He was instrumental in the semi-final defeat of England - hitting the post twice - leading Liverpool fans to question where this version of Macca has been over the last year.
