Sunderland have begun addressing season-ticket renewal concerns, with several supporters offered resolutions after direct contact, according to Sunderland Echo. Not every case has been settled, but the club’s recent steps follow a pledge to review cases raised by the fan group RAWA.
Fans previously reported problems moving from corporate packages back to general admission despite long service, alongside direct debit and wider ticketing issues.
Steven Poppleton, a season-ticket holder for 20 years, asked to move from the premium 76 Yards area to general admission after his father George died, having upgraded because of George’s mobility needs. He was initially told to join the waiting list.
On Friday afternoon he received a call apologising and offering general admission seats. He said RAWA had highlighted his case at last week’s meeting, with a resolution expected by Monday. He thanked the Branch Liaison Council and public support, and hoped others are sorted soon.
Other supporters have also had encouraging updates, including clarity on access for next season and recognition of loyalty discounts. The latest movement suggests the club have started to act on concerns raised in recent weeks.
Some fans felt loyalty was not recognised, with hospitality prices rising and returns to standard seating requiring a waiting list. Supporters also raised worries for elderly fans and direct debits. RAWA later met club representatives, including interim chief executive Tom Burwell, described the talks as constructive, and the club is understood to have acknowledged the need to improve ticketing and work through cases.
