Sunderland have been linked with Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott amid uncertainty over his future this pre-season.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool could consider selling the 23-year-old this summer if he fails to impress new head coach Andoni Iraola during pre-season.

Elliott has returned to Merseyside after a difficult loan at Aston Villa, where he made nine appearances in all competitions and did not meet the conditions for a permanent move. He is thought to be keen to prove himself and fight for another chance at Anfield.

Leeds United are credited with an interest. Sunderland, Crystal Palace and newly-promoted Coventry City are also said to be monitoring a possible deal, although finances could be a significant hurdle.

Valuations reported range from €35 million to around €40 million, with €35 million equating to roughly £29.7 million at current rates.

Régis Le Bris is expected to assess several attacking options as he strengthens Sunderland’s squad for Premier League and Europa League commitments. Elliott’s ability to play from the right, as a number ten or in a deeper creative role fits that brief.

For now, Elliott appears intent on earning another opportunity at Liverpool, and his pre-season displays are likely to dictate whether a transfer becomes realistic.
