In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Sunderland are eyeing a move for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats have set their sights on recruiting the French defender this off-season.
Methalie enjoyed a good run of form at the French club in the previous campaign when he put in a run of impressive displays for them in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old registered two goals and picked up two assists in 30 matches for Toulouse last season on all fronts.
The talented youngster is currently one of the most gifted left-backs in Ligue 1. Hence, it is no wonder that Sunderland are showing interest in signing him later this year.
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it difficult for the Black Cats to sign him on the cheap in this transfer window.

Methalie is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can even create the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The French sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team from the left flank. Methalie is primarily a left-back but can also serve as a centre-back or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to land him later this year.
We can expect Methalie to add more quality and depth to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ defence in the long run. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light in the coming seasons.
At 20, Methalie has got the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each year. He will also help the Wearside club compete across all competitions in the future. Therefore, Le Bris would be wise to get a deal done for him this summer.
