Sunderland have returned 65 away tickets for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park to sale at 12pm today after cancelling allocations linked to large-scale misuse, the club said in a statement.

A recent review identified a supporter in breach of away ticketing policies, prompting the cancellations and the reallocation of seats to eligible fans.

The club stressed it is focused on ensuring tickets are used by genuine supporters and on protecting the integrity of its allocation process. It warned that breaking ticketing terms may lead to disciplinary action, including cancellations and possible suspension from attending matches at the Stadium of Light.

The extra seats are expected to be in high demand as travelling fans finalise plans for the Tyneside trip.

Sunderland won the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light 1-0 earlier this season, the only goal credited as a Woltemade own goal.
