Sunderland contract picture after Dennis Cirkin confirms summer exit | OneFootball

Dennis Cirkin said in a social media post that he will leave Sunderland when his contract expires this month, and the club are expected to set out their retained list within a week.

Signed from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2021, the full-back has made more than 125 appearances across five seasons.

He helped end the club’s League One stay, then featured in last season’s Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United that clinched a Premier League return. Last season he played only eight top-flight matches, with three starts.

In his message he thanked supporters for their passion and loyalty, called representing the club over 100 times a privilege, and said he will carry Wearside with him.

Contract end dates underline decisions ahead. Summer 2026: Bertrand Traore, Lutsharel Geertruida (loan), Dennis Cirkin, Harrison Jones, Niall Huggins, Zak Johnson, Dan Neil.

Summer 2027: Reinildo Mandava, Luke O’Nien, Abdoullah Ba, Simon Moore, Alan Browne, Nazariy Rusyn, Arthur Masuaku, Aji Alese.

Summer 2028: Granit Xhaka, Wilson Isidor, Romaine Mundle, Milan Aleksic, Ahmed Abdullahi, Luis Semedo, Jenson Seelt, Timothee Pembele, Anthony Patterson, Leo Hjelde.

Summer 2029: Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee. Summer 2030: Trai Hume, Robin Roefs, Simon Adingra, Noah Sadiki, Chemsdine Talbi, Habib Diarra, Chris Rigg, Eliezer Mayenda, Dan Ballard, Melkor Ellborg, Jocelin Ta Bi, Nilson Angulo. Those out on loan in 2025/26 were Browne, Rusyn, Masuaku, Alese, Semedo, Seelt, Patterson, Hjelde and Adingra.
