Sunderland dismiss Noé Lebreton links after transfer claims

Sunderland have distanced themselves from links to NEC Nijmegen midfielder Noé Lebreton, with club sources denying suggestions a deal is close.

FourFourTwo reported that the Black Cats were close to adding a French midfielder to Régis Le Bris' squad, naming Lebreton as the target.

The 22-year-old signed for NEC from Caen last summer and delivered seven goals and six assists in 27 Eredivisie matches. That form helped NEC finish third and reach the Champions League third qualifying round.

Despite the speculation, the club’s stance is that the player is not one they are pursuing at present.

Sunderland remain active in the market as they prepare for Premier League and Europa League campaigns, but Lebreton is not understood to be among immediate priorities.
